NAHB Education: Monday’s Line-Up

Sixteen NAHB Education Courses will be offered before the start of the 2020 NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS). These one- and two-day courses give you a chance to dive deeper into specific industry topics and to increase your skill set.

The NAHB Education Courses available on Monday, January 20 include:

Train the Trainer | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This one-day course is designed for building industry professionals who wish to teach NAHB educational instructor-led classroom courses, industry experts or experienced teachers who have had no formal education in training, and any trainers who want a refresher to improve their classroom training skills. You will learn the skills needed to effectively teach in the NAHB Education curriculum. NOTE: Class size is limited to 10 participants.

Principles of Residential Marketing: Strategy & Implementation Classroom | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This one-day classroom course (Part II) applies what you learned online through hands-on exercises for developing and implementing a community’s marketing and sales strategy. You will learn how to determine appropriate channels and messaging based on your target market and be able to scale tactics based on product and location. NOTE: The online course (Part I) must be completed separately and is a prerequisite for taking this classroom course.

Advanced High Performance Building: Project Management (AHPBPM) | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This course is designed to give building professionals the knowledge to apply advanced green building practices to their new home, remodel, site development and multifamily construction projects. With a focus on a “whole house” approach, this one-day course identifies important systems, documents and communication strategies to help you develop a streamlined project management process.

Construction Contracts and Laws | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Many construction or remodeling companies are too small to hire full-time legal staff so it’s important to understand basic contract law. In this one-day course provides a step-by-step explanation of how contracts sustain positive customer and supplier relations, provide for resolution of disputes and minimize the risk of litigation. You will learn about mandatory and optional provisions, warranties and arbitration procedures. Special emphasis will also be given to troubleshooting contracts from a detrimental position.

Details & Solutions for Livable Homes and Aging In Place (CAPS III) | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This one-day course builds on the CAPS II courses (which is a highly-recommended prerequisite for this course) by introducing design solutions and techniques for professionals whose clients require specialized design and equipment to live and thrive comfortably in their homes. It will cover whole-house product specification and installation techniques, and also include practical, hands-on activities.

Business Accounting and Job Costing: A Road Map to Profitability | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
To properly manage a business, builders and remodelers need to understand accounting principles and job-costing procedures. This one-day course will provide the basics of financial planning, budgeting, construction business accounting, job cost systems and financial options that will enable you to track and analyze costs of goods, overhead and reports/records to be maintained.

NAHB Education Courses will also be offered on Saturday and Sunday.

NAHB Education Courses are offered January 21 – 23, 2020 in Las Vegas, and registration for pre-show courses will close in advance of the show.
