Meet Our Speakers Series: David Haifleigh

David Haifleigh is president
of HaifleighBrandWorks and TheFutureWorks. He works nationally with small business
owners and home builders to enhance enterprise value by building their brands
and putting them in more effective, strategic and competitive business
narratives. He will be presenting “7 Fundamental Ways to Strategically &
Competitively Differentiate Your Home Building Company”
at the NAHB International Builders’ Show® in
January. 

We spoke with him recently to gain
some insight into what he’ll share at IBS and a few fun tidbits, too. 

NAHB: What are you are looking
forward to the most at IBS?
DAVID:
To me, home is the most important place on Earth, so discovering the latest
innovations—while walking the show floor—that keep evolving “home” into the
highest and best expression of mankind is very exciting to me.

NAHB: Do you have a favorite blog
that you read regularly?
DAVID:
My favorite blog is The AJI Network because it offers short bursts of strategic
knowledge that I utilize immediately in my day. There is so much reality
contained there and a lot about the fundamental strategy that works to make top
incomes and secure top wealth. 

NAHB: What does rest and relaxation
look like for you?
DAVID:
Swimming, golfing, practicing Tai Chi, and having long conversations with my
wife and children. 

NAHB: What industry trends are you
most excited about?
DAVID:
The “Internet of Things” and how it will evolve our expression of “home.” 

NAHB: Best book read in the last
year?
DAVID:
A Competitive, Fundamental Strategy for
Earning a Living
by Toby Hecht. So far, I’ve only read the first chapter,
but I am in awe of how important, useful and worthwhile the reading is in my
efforts to make enough money to live a good life. 

NAHB: Favorite _____.
DAVID:
Sports Team Role—which is the team owner. It is common to be seduced by the
huge salaries that skillful athletes make, but I have a deep respect for the
skills of an owner who can afford to pay such market-driven salaries. From my
perspective, that’s where the real talent is. 

NAHB: Do you have a surprising
secret that you’d care to share?
DAVID:
As a freestyle skier, I was once a skiing stunt-double on Charlie’s Angels … then again, you probably already recognized me. 

NAHB: Success quote?
DAVID:
Organize around your ambition, not around comfort, ease or what’s common.

NAHB: In three words or less,
describe your prediction for the building industry in 2017?
DAVID:
Rising. Innovating. Morphing.
