Meredith Oliver, CSP, MIRM, is the president and creative director
of Meredith Communications, a
digital marketing agency located in Raleigh, NC. She is a professional
speaker—a top-rated speaker at the Builders’ Show, published author and has
held multiple volunteer positions with the National Association of Home
Builders (NAHB). We caught up with her last month to ask her a few fun
NAHB: What is
the one thing you are looking forward to while attending IBS?
MEREDITH: Shopping, of course! I hope to have time to work in a trip to The Mall at Millenia and
the Premium Outlets.
NAHB: What is
your favorite blog or podcast that you read/listen to regularly and why?
MEREDITH: I am
a big fan of Michael Hyatt. I read
his blog and listen to his podcasts regularly. I like his approach because
his strategies apply to both your personal and professional life.
NAHB: What is
your favorite vacation spot and why?
of course! I am originally from Orlando so when we vacation there, it is good
to be home. We visit friends and get to introduce Brady (our son) to the town
he was born in.
NAHB: If you
are a stranded traveler in an airport during the next heat wave, what three
items do you want with you?
one-way ticket out of there! Unfortunately, I’m a stranded traveler fairly
often. My must-have items for my “go” bag are: 1) fully charged devices to keep
me entertained, 2) snacks because I am always hungry, 3) hand lotion
because I cannot stand dry hands and 4) earphones to drown out the
noise of screaming babies and loud-talking passengers.
NAHB: You live
in Raleigh, North Carolina. What is your “must do” activity for people
you visit Raleigh, you must eat at the Angus
Barn. It is locally owned and operated, and you will not find better
seafood or steaks anywhere. The atmosphere is casual but the food is serious
NAHB: Fill in the blank: Favorite ____
of shoes, of course! I am a Bon Jovi rocking, Presbyterian, Gator football fan
who loves her family, friends and dogs almost as much as I love shopping for
industry trends are you most excited about?
MEREDITH: I cannot
wait to see where technology takes us next as it relates to the sales and
marketing of new homes. As virtual reality technology becomes more mainstream
and affordable, it could also be a total game changer.
NAHB: What TV show do you consider
summer, I was binge-ing out on Tyrant, and I can’t wait for House of Cards,
Homeland and How to Get Away with Murder to return this fall.
NAHB: In three
words or less, describe your prediction of the building industry in 2017.
MEREDITH: Better than ever!
