The 2022 New American Remodel® (TNAR) is located on the banks of Lake Sue. It is a one-story, 6,993 square-foot mid-century modern home that is being expanded and updated to a state-of-the-art home, while still retaining its original architectural charm. Architecture by Phil Kean and Designer Trade Services are overseeing this home’s transformation.

“The vision for the home is to create a house that felt like it was original, yet has all of the modern conveniences and technologies,” explains Phil Kean, owner of Architecture by Phil Kean.

“Once we acquired the home and found out how special it was, it was important to stay true to what we envisioned,” notes Eric J. Gray, owner of Designer Trade Services. The home will have all of the “bells and whistles” the industry has come to expect with TNAR products. This five bedroom, four and one-half bath home features numerous ultra-energy-efficient elements to give it a zero footprint.

A part of the design consideration for this home was asking how do you get more out of your home in 2021? And being in a COVID environment, everyone is spending more time at home. The original home was well-suited to be a two-bedroom, two-bath home with a den. “But when you want to have an office, maybe a gym and a pool, you need more square footage,” notes Gray. “There was only one way … to double the size.”

Much of the original structure, roof and walls of the home were retained. “Some of the elements that we are keeping from the original home are the great room, which was fantastic, to begin with, the original fireplace, the porch that faces the lake and a bedroom/bathroom,” states Kean.
