The New American Remodel 2020: Completed and Ready for Tours

Large beige house with lots of windows and a stone facade

The New American Remodel® (TNAR) is finished and ready for tours at the NAHB International Builders’ Show® 2020 in Las Vegas.

The original ranch-style home was built in 1977. It was 2,170 square feet and consisted of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Additionally, the home was operated on a 1,200-gallon septic system that was powered solely by electricity since gas utilities were unavailable.

Today, the property has been transformed into a two-story home with 4,802 square feet of living space. It includes five bedrooms, four bathrooms with two half-bathrooms, a showroom three-car garage, an elegant wine room, five radiant fireplaces, a luxurious summer kitchen and a rooftop terrace with a great view of the Las Vegas Strip. This home has a registered HERS Index of -17, or 117% more efficient than the average new code-built home, with an 104% reduction in energy use from pre-remodel levels.

“The original house was a one-story,” says Phil Kean of Phil Kean Designs, architect on this project. “We took the basic house’s footprint and added a second floor.”

The New American Remodel is the perfect place to showcase the latest products. Some of the design elements you will see include:

  • A seamless flow between the indoor-outdoor spaces.
  • Materials found in nature—stone, wood and marble.
  • The latest products, including technology, solar panels and LG/SKS appliances.
  • Energy efficient and sustainable products.

“When you walked into this home before it was remodeled, you could have an industrial view at the back of the lot,” explains Amanda McRay, interior designer for Element Building Company. “Now you walk in and see a beautiful water feature, all of the windows and the summer kitchen.”

Josh Anderson, owner of Element Building Company, had this to say about the experience: “The home is very comfortable, livable and inviting. It’s got great flow. It was really fun to watch it all come together, and I am very proud of our team.”

Registered IBS 2020 attendees can tour The New American Home and The New American Remodel daily during show hours via complimentary shuttle buses departing every 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
