The NAHB International Builders’ Show’s® (IBS) High
Performance Building Zone (HPBZ) is where you’ll discover best practices for
improving efficiency in all areas of the home—from basements and roofs to
everything in between. The HPBZ features top building science experts who lead
a series of live, interactive construction demonstrations and a building
performance lab.
New Addition to
HPBZ for 2017: The Building Performance Lab
The biggest change to the HPBZ for 2017 is the addition
of the Building Performance Lab. The Lab will contain a variety of see-through
sections designed to give you an inside-look at how high performance wall
systems, floors, HVAC, insulation and more are constructed and finished. These
will be the same products and techniques discussed on the HPBZ Demo Stage so
you can see how they translate to a real structure. Tours of the home will also
be conducted throughout the week, as well as presentations to highlight its
features.

Demonstration Stage
At the HPBZ Demo Stage, nationally acclaimed instructors
and building science experts Matt Whitbeck, Kevin Ireton and Gord Cooke will
take you through the practical, real-world side of why building science and
high performance building are transforming the housing industry.
Each day, the stage will feature a variety of informative
and interactive 30-minute presentations demonstrating how you can build various
components and showcasing the latest methods, tips and tricks used in high
performance building technique. Some of the topics covered will include:
- Advanced framing
- Sheathing installation & air sealing
strategies - Weather resistant barriers
- Exterior & cavity insulation
- Rainscreens
- Door & window flashing
- Sealing & insulating ductwork
- Conditioning attics, basements & crawlspaces
- Whole-house ventilation strategies
- High performance remodeling
Throughout the week, you’ll get a “whole-house” look for
improving performance in the homes you build and remodel.
