Nineteen pre-show courses will be offered before the start of the 2019 NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS). These half-, one- and two-day courses give you a chance to dive deeper into specific industry topics and to increase your skill set.
The pre-show courses offered on Saturday, February 16 are as follows:
Building It Right: Quality Construction | 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This half-day course is geared toward improving the quality of construction by identifying and developing best practices at each stage of construction. Learn how to identify the stakeholders of a construction project and define the performance expectations to ensure product quality throughout the building process.
Advanced High Performance Building: Project Management (AHPBPM) | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This course is designed to give building professionals the knowledge to apply advanced green building practices to their new home, remodel, site development and multifamily construction projects. With a focus on a “whole house” approach, this one-day course will provide the tools to be successful in high performance building.
Estimating and Scheduling for Profitable Business Operations | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Because the ability to prepare for a project is vital to its overall success, this course illustrates how estimating and scheduling work together to set up a project effectively. Gain greater efficiencies and protect profitability by learning the fundamentals of these two critical processes.
Marketing & Communicating with the Aging in Place Client (CAPS I) | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Millions of Americans are living longer and more active lives, and because they are embracing their new lifestyles, they are seeking ways to revitalize their home environment—for current and projected needs. This one-day course will provide you with the knowledge and tools to effectively market and sell services to the aging in place (AIP) markets.
Spokesperson Training Part I: Question & Answer Skills for Business & Media | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This training helps building industry professionals deliver their message in a thoughtful, effective way. Part I will help you master strategies for developing key messages and delivering them effectively for various platforms—from print to social media to in-person business meetings. (Part II is offered on Sunday.)
Taking the Guesswork Out of the Schedule | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
This half-day course identifies the components of an effective schedule, shows the benefits of creating baselines, and demonstrates how the schedule works with the budget and other construction documents. Learn how to adapt the schedule to accommodate change orders, insert activities, troubleshoot issues and get the schedule back on track.
