Do you love attending the NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS)? Do you like to be the first to know exciting information? Do you enjoy introducing others to new things?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, consider becoming a 2020 IBS ambassador.
The IBS Ambassador Program expands NAHB member awareness of the building industry’s biggest event at the local level. Ambassadors share their experiences from the show with fellow members, and explain the benefits of attending IBS. This includes answering important questions about the show, from education sessions to networking events to hotel arrangements and transportation.
The biggest surprise for members? “They are generally surprised by the sheer size of the show,” observed Karen Hall of the Building Industry Association of Clark County — a first-time ambassador at the 2019 IBS.
To help field member questions, ambassadors receive priority information about the show to distribute, and impart important feedback to the IBS marketing team and other ambassadors through conference calls.
“I enjoy being an insider and being the first to share information with my local members,” shared Kathy Browning, CMP, MIRM, CGP, of Design Consultants, who has been an ambassador since the program’s inception.
Ambassadors also help provide a bridge between local HBAs and NAHB on the whole.
“I think the role has really helped connect our local HBA with NAHB and IBS in providing more accurate information to our members in a timely manner,” recalled Brandon Salisbury, MIAPD, of Craig Sharp Homes — a four-year IBS ambassador. “Our members are now much more aware of the show and the vast opportunities available outside of just the show floor or education classes. This includes the IBS scholarship opportunity and first-time attendee discounts, the many nightly events, and more information on the latest show news.”
For Salisbury, it has been a professional development opportunity as well that has further engaged him in his HBA. He has since joined several committee and boards that he may not have considered were it not for this opportunity.
“It is a rewarding experience that each HBA should have!” he added.
More than 40 ambassadors have already signed up; join them in helping to make the 2020 IBS the best show yet. Interested NAHB members can learn more about the program and sign up on the IBS website.
