In the NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS) Master Session, “2019 Design Playbook: The Styles, Trends, Colors & Finishes You Need to Know,” architects, designers and color strategists will prepare you for the year ahead in all things design. They’ll cover what you need to know to excite buyers and stay ahead of the curve, beginning with a snapshot of trends and an overview of what to expect from design in 2019.

In this three-hour advanced session, you will:

  • Explore the latest in architectural styles, from budget-friendly to luxury living.
  • Learn ways to gain an advantage using exterior color and styling trends.
  • Discover what’s new in kitchens and bath design—two of the hottest topics for IBS 2019.
  • Discuss design strategies and details to include when designing for different buyer types.

These leading industry professionals will leave no stone unturned in this deep dive into architecture and design. Whether you are a builder or designer, come away ready to gain every design advantage in 2019 and beyond.

How to Secure Your Seat:

This Master Session will be held on Thursday, February 21 from 8:00 – 11:00 AM and is eligible for continuing education credits. To register, you must have a full registration or one-day education registration for Wednesday. General seating is first-come, first-served, but seats can be reserved in advance for $25. Reserved seating can only be purchased during IBS advanced registration online, not on site. Simply add this session to your Builders’ Show registration. About Our Presenters:

Mary Jo PetersonMary Jo Peterson, MS is an award-winning designer and president of her Connecticut-based design firm, Mary Jo Peterson, Inc., which focuses on residential projects and provides design support to major home builders and product manufacturers nationwide. Over the last 30 years, Mary Jo’s contributions to the designs of kitchens and baths have impacted thousands of custom and production homes built by some of our country’s finest and largest home builders. She is also speaking at another IBS education session, “Kitchens Tailored to Your Target Buyer.”

 

Deryl PattersonDeryl Patterson, AIA is an award-winning architect and the president and founder of Housing Design Matters, Inc., specializing in residential architecture. She is highly sought after, because her designs sell houses, and she applies her experience as a working mother to all of her home designs. As a frequent contributor to trade publications, Deryl stays on the forefront of current trends and innovations, drawing from everyday life to channel thoughtful design that improves the way we live. She is also speaking at another IBS education session, “Must-Have Design Ideas for Today’s Busy Lifestyle.” 

 

Doris PearlmanDoris Pearlman, MIRM, CMP is a sought-after judge for industry competitions and an in-demand speaker at design conferences across the nation. As a respected thought leader in both the design and homebuilding industries, Doris founded Possibilities for Design to bring her trend-setting concepts to a marketplace eager for fresh ideas and innovation. She is also speaking at the IBS Spotlight session, “60 Design Ideas in 60 Minutes.” 

 

Rick OverbyRick Overby is the owner and lead color strategist at STELLA Color+Design in Denver, Colorado. With a background in residential architecture and fine art, Rick specializes in the development of exterior color palettes for home builders, architects and developers nationwide. 2019 will be the third consecutive year that Rick has spoken on at least one panel about exterior color and material trends at IBS. 

 

Steven DeWanSteven DeWan, NCARB has been with Bassenian Lagoni since 1988 and manages key client relationships for a multitude of residential design projects, ranging from single-family detached homes to multi-family residences. After growing up in Orange County, California and studying architecture in the U.S. and in Denmark, he now applies his knowledge and creativity in the region that has always been home and today has become synonymous with innovative housing solutions.
