Game Changers Spotlight: The New Suburbia

Greg Lindsay

Predictions of a permanent “back to the city” movement by the younger generations—and resulting suburban demise—may have been a bit overstated.

Yes, there are many young people who prefer the urban core, but today’s fastest-growing cities in the United States are actually Sunbelt metros, like San Antonio, Phoenix and Dallas. Furthermore, huge outflows of people are moving from “superstar cities” due to a lack of affordable housing, a trend we can expect to grow as Millennials start families. So yes, the next generation of buyers will be leaving the city, but they also have no intention of migrating to their parents’ suburbia, either.

Meet Greg Lindsay, a journalist, urbanist, speaker and a senior fellow at NewCities Foundation, a global nonprofit committed to shaping a better urban future. He speaks frequently about globalization, innovation and the future of cities, and he is also a two-time Jeopardy! champion (and the only human to go undefeated against IBM’s Watson).

Greg will present thought-provoking insights at one of the Game Changers keynote presentations at this year’s Builders’ Show. Here’s what you can expect from his session.
