Fourteen pre-show courses will be offered before the start of the 2018 NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS). These one- and two-day courses give you a chance to dive deeper into specific industry topics and to increase your skill set.

Here are the pre-show courses offered on Monday, January 8:

Business Accounting and Job Costing: A Road Map to Profitability | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
In order to properly manage their business, builders and remodelers need to understand accounting principles and job-costing procedures. This one-day course will provide the basic terminology and methods and introduce the common types of financing methods for new homes, construction loans and operation capital.

Construction Contracts and Law | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Many construction or remodeling companies are too small to hire full-time legal staff so it’s important to understand basic contract law. In this one-day course, you will learn about sales agreements, construction contracts, remodeling contracts, warranties and subcontractor agreements, including mandatory and optional provisions. Special emphasis will also be given to troubleshooting contracts from a detrimental position.

Details & Solutions for Livable Homes and Aging in Place (CAPS III) | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This one-day course builds on the CAPS I and CAPS II courses (which are prerequisites for this course) by introducing design solutions and techniques for professionals whose clients require specialized design and equipment to live and thrive comfortably in their homes. It will cover whole-house product specification and installation techniques and also include practical, hands-on activities.

Marketing and Sales for Building Professionals | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Today’s customers are demanding and selective and, thanks to the world of technology, they are also well educated. So how do you stand out from the crowd? This one-day course will provide an overview of the many types of marketing and sales tools available to help build your unique brand, so you can engage potential customers, clients and referral partners to choose your product or remodeling services.

Principles of Residential Marketing: Strategy & Implementation Classroom | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
This one-day course (Part 2) will help you understand the importance of developing and analyzing a marketing strategy, and lead you through hands-on exercises for developing and implementing a community’s marketing and sales strategy. NOTE: The online course (Part I) must be completed separately and is a prerequisite for taking this classroom course.

Nowhere else during the year will you find all of these courses available in one place, at one time. Pre-show courses are offered January 6 – 8, 2018 in Orlando. Registration for pre-show courses will close in advance of the show.
